WHAT IS DRY EYE?
Today, dry eye is very common that affecting many patients over the age of 50. Women are more prone to dry eye syndrome as compared to men. The symptoms-

A LITTLE BACKGROUND. WHAT IS A TEAR?
Tears consist of 3 main layers which create tear film. These layers are-
- Watery layer
- Oil layer
- Mucous layer
Dry eye is caused due to insufficiency or irregularity of one or more of these layers. Go for tear film examination and get it treated.

There is another way of treating dry eye i.e. Punctal Plugs. Few seconds are required for this procedure and once completed you can drive yourself back home. A small silicone “plug” is gently placed in the lower eyelid which retains the natural tear by providing relief and hydration. Plugs last from months to years and you will be able to use artificial tears very less. Plugs are used in combination with artificial tears and prescription drop therapy.
STATE OF THE ART DRY EYE THERAPY:
Many doctors offer Lipiflow. Eyelids consist of a number of oil glands known as meibomian glands. These can create blockages and decrease the production of the protective oily layer of the tear film. This makes eyes prone to redness, burning and grittiness. The entire procedure requires 15 minutes to complete. With this procedure, the gland blockages are cleared and gland function is restored. The improvement can be noticed in 6 weeks and 80% effective results can be achieved.
